Has Anyone Tried to Advertise Marketing Services on Craigslist?

    Hey,

Has anyone tried offering SEO stuff on CL? I tried once in one city for backlinks, but got no bites.

You'd think CL would be a great place to advertise because: 1. it's free, and 2. the traffic is immense.

But... is it bad for marketing?

It's a local classifieds, nobody goes there looking for SEO services. I am actually surprised that your ad stayed up for as long as it did. Usually those types of ads are flagged and removed within a few hours.

It doesn't matter. It's still for local services only. Their (craigslist's) mission statement is all about local advertising (which obviously doesn't include SEO services) unless you have an office that offers SEO services in this or that particular city where your ad is posted.

Craigslist is a crapshoot and the flagging on their is ridiculous! I haven't really tried marketing SEO services on there per se, but I have tried to advertise writing services in the services section with no live link attempts whatsoever, and I couldn't even get the darn ad to stay up for more than a day without it being flagged for some strange reason.

It's not strange. CL is a local classifieds. If you post something that is not local, your ad will be flagged and removed (either by the community or their spam filters), no matter what. That's why I have hard time believing that any of those CL posting services are for real. Their success rate has gotten to be 0.01%.

Yes, there are pros and cons (including getting spam mails)
Advice is to diversity your ads in other places too.
Look out for other Biggest / Largest Classifieds.
