Earlier domain names with higher keywords had a increased chance in SEO. But now all the domain names are same. Even though the facts are like this it is better to buy a keyword rich domain name from a trusted domain provider such as Godaddy or Namecheap. If you wants more info on those registers, you can always refer my signature below.

I'd try to avoid EMD now and instead go for something that is brandable. Why? Because google is using something called cocitation so if your brand is mentioned on another site about your niche then it will help you in the rankings.

I think google still sees keywords in the domain name.

For example, search for india web hosting in google.co.in , and the first result is
    indiawebhosting
    . com

If you find some famous keyword and it is in other extension like: dk,la,im,cm etc.. you can be on first page. But main keyword must be something like:photo, games, video, etc...

you can't beat a brandable, exact-match, keyword domain, imo, but I do agree with Geek Slash above, having a memorable, brandable, short, domain is as important as having an exact match on a keyword. I do prefer .com's, not so much for SEO, but for establishing authority, while it is my understanding that all TLDs have the same potential to rank well, .com is still the most desirable address to have.

I always go with something that sounds nice and don't really care about having keywords in the domain. However, all my sites, so far, have been blogs. If I'd ever get into making a static niche site just for Adsense, I'd probably get a domain that would, at least, match my targeted keyword 65%.

It depends what your website or blog is about, target keywords in the domain name which the content is going to be about then it will naturally be slightly easier to rank for them.
