Not being critical, I am just curious... where is the value to the "wp" prefix? wordpress? isn't that pretty narrow?

Lists are just that, a list.
Nothing spectacular at all.
Like most lists.
Way I see it, if it is available to register?
Then the big gurus of the domain world know something others don't.
Why they did not or probably will not register.

About 1/5 of the internet is powered by WordPress.
If that is narrow, then what (if anything) is broad?

Your argument makes no sense. Putting random words after WP doesn't make ANY sense to a user. Doing something like WPThemes does because you are going after the enduser who know what it means. wprecognize.com or wptemperature.com (as two quick random examples) don't make sense to the end user who knows WP nor to any other user. Why not do something more ubiquitous like html? Would you buy html and a random word? No, it would need to make at least some sense or be brandable (like htmlmonkey). The only person who would buy it is someone who doesn't understand domaining. My question was because I don't understand why anyone would have interest in random words after WP and was hoping for an answer other than how much of the web is built on a product that uses the initials, but most users know nothing about. That is all.

I never said putting random words after WP makes sense.
I spoke directly to your question, as it was written, at that time.
That is all.

I agree with Chris, WP can't be called a narrow niche for sure..
There are big money to be made with affiliates there.
WP or not WP putting 2 random words together never makes sense; no matter what niche you are in

I don't get it. So you only buy domains that are already owned by "big gurus"? :)

I also tend not to believe in gurus...
Domain gurus at least :P

I don't know what constitutes a "guru."
But, guys that have sold names for 6-7 figures still hand reg names.
Not all day, every day, mind you...

But, like most of us, they enjoy the thrill of finding a nugget in the sand.
For the astute and persistent miner, there is still gold in the ground.

Again, read what I said.
Most domains waiting to be regged are bypassed by the big money people.
For many reasons known only to them.
Did not say they may or may not reg new domains, just that they are choosy.

And never said to buy domains from gurus.

Tangents, people love going off on tangents.

It's not a tangent. It's the logical extension of your reasoning. If you shouldn't buy domains that are passed on by gurus, then what can you buy other than domains that gurus already own?

Anyhow, it was a tongue in cheek comment. The point is that I don't share your confidence that big gurus have looked at all unregistered domains and passed on them. I've thankfully managed to find plenty of opportunities that the gurus somehow missed and so have many others.

That WAS my question and I never modified it. I asked if it was too narrow to use "WP" as a prefix representing wordpress (by itself - without an additional word to give it meaning). You took part of my statement and ignored the rest so you could make it say what you wanted...

Again, I NEVER said Wordpress itself was too narrow. I said using the prefix "WP" representing Wordpress was too narrow... And your second statement is exactly what I was thinking and asking about..

Guys, please read what I write...

svede I am sorry I offended you.
That was not my intention.

"WordPress" is a trademark.
No 3rd party providers are allowed to use that term in their domains.
So, they can, and often do, use WP as a substitute.
Pretty much everyone who wants WorPress stuff knows that WP is the "generic keyword" for WordPress.

No worries, I am not offended. I am sorry if I came out too strong, I just felt like my question was being ignored and a different one answered. And I totally get using the WP prefix when it makes sense - like I mentioned above with "WPThemes.com" or "WPTemplates.com" as an additional example. I was just confused by this list which seemed to be a list of random words appended to "WP" and genuinely was curious if people thought there was any value in it (assuming the OP did or they wouldn't have posted it?). I didn't mean to start a whole rant, its just I see these from time to time and "don't get them".

EDIT: I realize my above post made it sound like I didn't see any value in WP prefix at all. I meant to say with random words. Edited it.

Thanks!
