Godaddy as of today appears to have prevented transfers out after 18 days after expiry.

Got this error message after trying to get Auth Code:

Domain was unlocked

In the old days, always used to work even with unlocked domain

Must be new policy in line with the non-working coupons etc..

Contact them and ask them to fix this - happened to me a few weeks ago. Quote this - I did - they fixed it.

Can I email the authorization code for an expired domain name?
Yes. If you want to transfer an expired domain name to another registrar, you can send the authorization code to the administrative contact's (admin) email address as long as the expired domain name is in the renewal grace period. Once the status indicates that the domain name is in registry redemption, you can no longer transfer it. See Get an authorization code for transfers for instructions.

I had the the same thing happen to me on a domain I wanted to transfer out which had not expired. A Godaddy rep told me they've been having a glitch generating codes. You need to contact them thru chat and they will send you one. I think you can still transfer out within 30 days of expiry-but I'm not positive. I haven't heard that they've changed that policy.

I think sometimes they make things harder deliberately knowing most people will end up taking the easiest route. I bet they save a lot of renewals like that.

I hope it's not a glitch.

I'm tired of buying auction domains, only to have them yanked out from under me.

Renew your domains, already.

I just tested it with a domain that is 41 days after expiration and I received the authorization code with no issues.
