Best Time for domain Auction Ending?

Hello,
So I'm trying to sell my domain:
burnabylawyers.com
And I was told a good way would be hosting an auction on ebay and emailing end users about it.

Usually when you're using flippa and selling sites you want to try to get your auction to end during the weekend but since this is a business. What is the best day to have your auction end?

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
It actually works both ways. On weekends there are chances that people are away or are on a holiday. Also on weekdays people are at work and not many would want to take buying decisions at such a time or even consider looking up auctions, unless they have already been watching it for a while. Whereas the best auction end time depends on your name's market too. Which countries or region's people would be more interested in your name? Which auction platform are you using? So it all need's to be researched.

:hi:-,

You bring up a good concern.

I won't comment on using eBay. Try your luck there.

I will just say since you are targeting Business End Users you may want to avoid ending your auction on:

  • Mondays -the week is just getting started and usually busy
and
  • Fridays -the week is winding down and focus may be on weekend activities

Go for the middle. :imho:

Thanks Great Advice!
I'll be sure to take that into consideration.

Thanks,
AS mentioned I'm going with ebay because it seemed to be recommended by others being the most known auctioning system. Some might not know what sedo is. Additionally I'm trying to target the business niche. I think the person above nailed it on the head considering the information in your post.
Thanks for your help.

Sunday night as most people are home from whatever they were doing and getting ready for work on monday with the exception of a holiday weekend like this one, not too late but not too early where they are still out messing around so I would shoot for 6-10 p.m. as the close, I also prefer 7 day auctions as it's easier for the bidders to remember as they end on the same day they start.

I would also agree with a midweek ending.

Sidepoint: I would also stay away from Ebay. While it is a good auctioning platform it's better for stuff other then domains.

You could try emailing end users and telling them that the domain is available and that you are selling it to others as well and see what happens over email. Just my 2cents.

Agree with 6-10 pm, for auction at sedo, which time zone is the best? PDT? PET?

depends on the domain, he is selling a geo/service domain burnabylawyers so easy to target geo ones so they end at a decent time for their time zone, on a general domain the best you could do is try to pick a zone where you think more of the end users would be or have it end early enough 5-6 if you can't pinpoint a location so as it spreads across the zones all of them end at a decent time instead of like 3 a.m. or something. I would still contact end users and direct them to the auction though as the odds of a burnaby lawyer scouring ebay for a domain within a 7 day auction is pretty slim. Having a decent domain is only half the battle as it means nothing unless the end user comes knocking for it or you proactively make them aware of it.

Thanks,
I'm thinking whether I should have it end during office hours since I'm targeting businesses or after office hours?

I intend just to use ebay as the bidding platform however I'm going to email potential endusers directing them to the auction to create a bidding war hopefully.

Or do you think it's better just to look for offers. I'm getting so many mix messages because some say by using an auction platform you can create a sense of urgency where as if you use offers you might be able to negotiate better?

All sounds confusing.

Now I'm just trying to decided:
1) Should I auction it on ebay message potential end users regarding the auction
2) Should I email potential endusers looking for someone to purchase.
Thanks

I would suggest contacting end users first (10+) and seeing if there is any interest and then based on the amount of people that respond decide if it makes sense to do a direct sale or send everyone an auction link as no sense wasting money starting an auction until you see if at least 2 people respond to make an auction worthwhile. Ebay is probably not the best avenue for domain sales but one advantage is every end user has heard of them and if you have 2+ end users respond and direct them to the auction then any decent auction platform can work Sedo, Ebay etc...

Sorry to bump this up but studies show every major auction marketplace Wednesday is the highest average income every site.
