Everyone has a different story when it comes to why and how did they start domaining whether you are a part time or a full time domainer!

As for me, I started domaining while looking for ways to make money online. A millionaire friend of mine who was deep into internet marketing told me to start from domaining and later get into developing websites. However, domain names caught my interest and I never went on to build websites. Currently a part time domainer!

What's your story?

It's always good to have Millionaire friends Lol!

I started on a rush actually, Registered my first domain Together4Forever for a Chic, a year after that when i was renewing it, I had a crazy rush to get more names and more names. Within that one month i had registered 300 domains and most foolish ones.

So it started in a craze and became a passion/hobby.

It all started as a support to my husband. Sharing ideas, criticizing his thoughts, offering minor help, planning stuff and eventually day dreaming together and having big plans (still to achieve). I've been sucked up by the addiction and today I am a partner and competitor in some way :) we now share something in common and challenge each other and have plenty to talk about in the evenings after a long working day at our full time jobs!

Its quite an amazing and interesting story! Would love to know what kind of domains are you into.

i started because i thought that is a easy way to mmo, i realized is not the case but by then i was already hooked. it used to be much easier to hand reg. decent domains and to increase the value of a domain.

Started it as a new hobby to learn more about the world wide web opportunities, network and learn something new in the digital world.

Leaning new ways to make ROI that isn't just in property real estate or other types of investments :)

There is lot to learn if you don’t want to lose your money, some which I can think of right now are:

  1. Don’t believe in domain name sales, each sale is different you cannot replicate the same sale again.
  2. The truth is no one is a master here in domaining, so don’t follow anyone learn by making your own mistakes.
  3. learn before you earn, before starting to invest you have to know how to evaluate a domain price.
  4. If you are not sure on how much you have to invest on a domain, use the help of a paid domain name consultant.
  5. All domain name marketplaces are same, so list your domains in all the marketplaces which are free to list like Grabflip,Afternic and Sedo. (The more number of eyeballs you catch, faster you can sell your domain)
  6. Avoid using auction platforms like Flippa where you have to pay a hefty sum as listing fee (most of the buyers there are resellers), instead always use a make offer marketplaces which I have mentioned in the above point.
All the best!

Thanks Bruce Mesnekoff

Over the years, I have tried a lot of ways to make a secondary income from home doing "almost nothing". Never had much success except for reselling Magic The Gathering cards on eBay which was a huge hit but it was way too much work. I quit after 2 years, after making enough profits to buy my "new" used car.

I needed something effortless that I could do on my laptop while I was watching a hockey game on TV.

One day I came across a video of Michael Krell and Michael Cyger on YouTube about BrandBucket and that seemed perfect. I started buying domains with the hope of making money on BrandBucket.

Yet again after a while it was too much time consuming. I needed to research names for several hours every night. I got bored. That is when I decided to only invest in 4L.com.

I am not a domainer, I am an investor.

Now I see domains the same way I am investing on the stock market. On the stock market I am a swing trader. I am targeting short-term returns. That is exactly what I am doing with domains too.

I needed domains with a lot of volatility to get in and out whenever I want. 4L are perfect for that. For me, that is the perfect model and it is much less risky than the stock market.

If I invest $1500 in a stock and I make a 12-15% return within 12 months, I am happy.

That is exactly what I do with my 4L. They are liquid, volatile. When I buy a 4L, I am not looking for home runs with an end-user, I am looking to get my 12-15% return within 12 months and I am happy :)

For me it all started in need of some cash. I had one domain name and just tried to sell on Flippa. And it got sold. That was my first sales without knowing anything about the domain industry.
Later on bought crap domain names. I received few good offers even for those domain names but being greedy left me at the point to drop those domain names.
That time, I didn't even know about NamePros. I was doing everything alone, as if I know everything.
Once I join Namepros I have learnt a lot. And I am waiting to make some good investments very soon. But for now I am just learning about domaining and trying to sell few of my domain names.

Domaining created another stream of revenue for me. I fell in love with the uniqueness of selling an intangible asset. I treat domains like stocks, I don't fall in love with the name, just love buying low and selling it high and providing a service. It also allowed me to connect and network with people from around the world. Most people I talk to offline don't know this industry even exist, so when I tell them I sell domains for a living most of them can't wrap their head around it, I love that. The beauty of it is it's a real challenge to consistently sustain great cash flow with domains, but if you're creative enough you'll find a way to make domaining work for you! Just my two cents....

I started because I love numbers and letters.

It started out when I was about 15 years old, I always wanted to have the easiest mobile phone number.

Now I ended up with a mobile phone number that ends with 22 22 22.

So, from numbers to domains wasnt a big jump.
