information Top Topics: My First Big Domain Sale; Do 99% of Investors Lose Money?

NameSilo
A discussion was published yesterday regarding five-letter .COM domains, with the title telling visitors that there was potentially some "good news" for this category. I see very little good news in the five-letter .COM market! The Chinese domain market has been something I've been studying extensively for an upcoming project, and I believe that there is little to get excited about in speculative niches such as this one.

The renewal period for five-letter .COMs and seven-number .COMs are fast approaching; I think there may be a big exodus from these categories unless a couple of large investors make attempts to manipulate the market in the very near future.

Here's this week's Top Topics.

Do 99% of Investors Really Lose Money?

Domain investing has been described as a hobby, more than a business venture on more than one occasion. It's often said that the large majority of domainers lose money thanks to a lack of sales and regular registration fees. Is that accurate?

It's very difficult to quantify how many investors there really are, and exactly which of those are regularly posting a profit from domains, but this discussion takes a look at the reasons for and against the notion that most domainers are losing money.

End User Marketing: How Not to Get Flagged as Spam

End user marketing can be an effective way of producing sales without waiting for companies to come to you. It's something that many investors have done, and continue to do. However, end user marketing can be seen as a form of spamming.

How can you avoid being reported as a spammer? This discussion looks at possible techniques that include using a professional email address, rather than a free Hotmail or Gmail account.

I Won the Auction, but I Didn't Get the Domain

Domain investor @comati has told the community that after winning and paying for a GoDaddy auction, the domain name was never transferred to the new owner. What can be done in this situation? Is GoDaddy able to do anything here to ensure that the transaction is successfully closed?

The investor paid just under $4,000 for the domain name in question, and certainly has a right to feel aggrieved about this. GoDaddy's Aftermarket Product Manager @Joe Styler has contributed to the discussion by stating that sellers who fail to deliver are banned from their platform.
